There are new sub-genres such as soft rock, Glam rock, heavy metal, hard rock, progressive rock and punk rock. Rock sub-genres that emerged in the 1980s included New Wave, hardcore punk and alternative rock while grunge, Brit-pop, Indie rock and nu metal came out in 1990s.
A group of musicians specializing in rock music is called a rock band or rock group. Most rock groups consist of an electric guitarist, lead singer or vocalist, bass guitarist and drummer this form is called a quartet but Some groups omit one or more of these roles and or utilize a lead singer who plays an instrument while singing like the “The Beatles”, one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands in the history of popular music, selling over a billion records internationally . The Beatles were a pop and rock band from Liverpool, England formed in 1960. Primarily consisting of Paul McCartney (bass guitar, vocals), George Harrison (lead guitar, vocals), Ringo Starr (drums, vocals) and the guy with the famous round Reading Glasses, John Lennon (rhythm guitar, vocals).
