Reality television continues to grow each year with creators of these shows coming up with new spins all of the time. The first reality TV series was done by MTV when they put on Real World on over 15 years ago. Today this genre of television takes place not only on cable network stations like MTV, TLC, or BRAVO but reality shows do quite well on traditional channels also . The topics of reality shows range anywhere from where they offer a top modeling contract from a Seattle model agency to a $1,000,000 prize for losing the most weight on Biggest Loser. Areas such as the Seattle modeling agencies get to promote their business while at the same time get a lot more possibilities walking through their door wanting to be on the show then if they just advertised needing models in the local paper . Due to the the popularity of reality television shows and how a lot of younger adults want to have their fifteen minutes of fame it has really helped boost the economy in particular professions that have a reality show on.

One area where reality television has increased a particular profession is in the field of cooking. There have been many chef related challenges on TV that now draw from some of the biggest chefs in the country wanting to get the exposure in addition to a chance at whatever the grand price would be. Often it entails a hefty monetary prize ranging from $50,000 to $1,000,000 and usually has a great step professionally too . One example is the show Top Chef where every week a variety of chefs compete in cooking challenges where their dishes are judged by food critics. Week by week the loser is sent home eventually leading to the winner aptly titled the Top Chef. They get exposure in a famous food magazine in addition to a large sum of money to be used to further their career . Typically the winner then goes on several talk news shows that continues to propel them to a sort of stardom within their field . Due to these shows, there has been an increase in applicants to culinary schools around the world .

Another example are the modeling and fashion industries that have increased with the help of reality shows showing viewers their profession . Tyra Bank’s America’s Top Model has been a great success every season drawing thousands of young women wanting to have a chance at becoming a model . Usually the winner ends up being a small town girl that never had the exposure or chance at something such as this career otherwise therefore exemplifying the American dream of all things are possible in America . Fashion design schools too have had an overwhelming increase in enrollment at their school where that has been shown on reality TV . That industry has attracted many future fashion design students from series such as The Hills, Fashion Week and Project Runway.

As long as writers continue creating reality TV shows it will continue to affect the viewers . Many careers are thanking their lucky stars for these shows in promoting their craft .
